DIY on the up
As families feel the economic squeeze more and more, finding ways to be savvy with cash is more important than ever before. Although spending in some areas may be curbed, for some this tightening of the purse strings will actually be good news.
The number of adults in ROI who have done some sort of DIY in the home has steadily increased over the last five years. Latest TGI ROI data reveals that 2.1 million adults aged 15+ have done DIY in the last 12 months – a rise of 100,000 in the past year. This indicates the increasing importance of ‘doing things for themselves’ amongst ROI adults.
This reflects the overarching need for adults in ROI to be sensible with their spending – 76% claim that if they want something, they will save for it. They have, therefore, adopted a much more hands on approach to home decoration, meaning that the money they save can be spent elsewhere.
