Irish households ‘switched on’ about switching suppliers
Following the deregulation of the gas and electricity market, a large proportion of the country are taking up the opportunity to switch their utility suppliers. Latest TGI data reveals that approaching 400,000 Irish households (almost a quarter of household population) have changed their gas or electricity supplier in the last 12 months. The increased competition by competing utility suppliers looks likely to intensify as more and more households look into this.
In terms of those who have changed suppliers, almost 80% are always on the lookout for special offers. This group are also particularly likely to be motivated by price, as evidenced by the emphasis they place on this when buying other services such as ISP providers (35% more likely to be most influenced by cost) and mobile phone providers (30% more likely to be most influenced by contract cost).
